BlackTail Camper Trailers grew from many nights sitting around camp fires, and planning the next remote get away. We are both passionate about exploring New Zealand, and finding the most beautiful scenic unknown spots.

Our camping previously has been done in tents, fold forward camper trailers, caravans and recently swags. All of these have their place, but we were looking for something that was truly off road, built without compromise and rugged enough to go anywhere in, while being comfortable, and easy to use. The New Zealand market didn’t have anything, like the standard we wanted, so using our experience building and competing in competition 4WD race cars, plus years of camping, we built a road going trailer each for us to use, that were a perfect match of form and function.

Our trailers are built from the ground up, for Off road use, they aren’t a flimsy shell with some big tyres added. Every single design choose has been made, for us. The goal right from the beginning was to build the best, and not compromise on material quality, workmanship, or construction short cuts.

These two trailers were unexpectedly sold, before we had even used / finished building them. This ultimately led to the creation of our new company, building high quality, genuine off road camper trailers, for real New Zealand conditions.

If you traditionally head away at Christmas and spend two weeks in a camping ground, listening to the neighbours right next to you, these aren’t going to be your cup of tea. However, if you want to explore past the road end, find that perfect spot on the edge of the lake, or up the head of the valley, you now have the ability to do so with no discomfort, and all the amenities required.
